Conversation room

Are there feelings you just don't welcome?
Some of us have a hard time with sadness, both our own and that of others, and immediately have an impulse to make it go away through encouragement, explanations, or action.
But the sadness doesn't go away, it just gets pushed over.
For others, it is anger, loneliness, or hopelessness that do not feel welcome. And correspondingly, we find ways around them.
Culturally, there are feelings that are frowned upon; or what do you mean by jealousy? Jealousy? Thirst for revenge? Binge drinking? Disgust? It is rarely emotions that give points in the ordinary, public space.
But all these emotions arise spontaneously in response to something we think or experience, and when we suppress our emotions, we limit our own life energy. And when we cannot accommodate other people's feelings, we limit their life energy. Not because it's particularly nice to be jealous - it's not! But because the repressed emotions have consequences. It takes other feelings with us into the hiding place, and e.g. playfulness, joy, energy and curiosity can become part of what we don't have access to when we suppress the feelings we don't want to be known for.
Feeling your emotions is not the same as surrendering to forces that can run away from us. On the contrary. When we can accommodate our own and other's emotions, emotions can do what they are meant to do: bring us closer together as people, and inform us of possible actions we can take.
This Tuesday we talk about what we can't change: The unwelcome feelings that wash over us when we least want it.
What can you expect?
I will talk about the origin and purpose of emotions for us mammals, and suggest some exercises along the way. You should want to go home with a feel-good experience, and hopefully a more open window for your and other people's feelings.
As always, everyone is free to decide whether they want to tell something privately. I try to accommodate everyone who wants to speak.
- Expect fun and seriousness in equal measure
- An experience of being in a community where you are welcome and OK, regardless of how you present yourself
- Inspiration to take home, ready to get started right away
It takes place as usual in the Fruit Warehouse at the address Vissemosevej 14, Havnelev, 4673 Rødvig Stevns.
Read any more on website. Sign up by replying to this email - no later than on the day before 12.00.
How does it take place?
As always, the circle is our starting point and end point. We give each other space to feel how we really feel right now (so on Tuesday). And room to investigate what we haven't considered before. The focus is on the experience of being alive, rather than the stories we have heard-
Practical information:
- Bring indoor footwear.
- Please bring something to eat. There is water, coffee and tea in addition to service, and we take a break along the way.
- Feel free to bring a notebook and writing clothes if you are into that sort of thing.
Conversations about what we don't talk about.
In 2023, the overarching theme of our monthly conversation room is to make peace with what we cannot change. It may be the death that is going to befall us all one day. About illness, limitations, disappointments and losses, and it can also be about luck, opportunities and success that sometimes leave us skeptical - can it really be true?
It all takes place with input from e.g. Nonviolent Communication.
